The Word  - January 9, 2012 - Spiritual Warfare Part Four

"Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need. Don't worry at all about tomorrow. Tomorrow can take care of itself! One days trouble is enough for one day" (Matthew 6:33-34).

We all have to confess that worry is a common temptation in life, and for many, it is a favorite pastime. Jesus categorically prohibited worry in a familiar portion of the Sermon on the Mount. In Matthew 6:25-34, He commands, "Don't worry", three times. And the way He said it reveals how important His command really is.

Think about it this way: Christians who worry believe God can redeem them, break the shackles of the devil, take them from hell to heaven, put them into His kingdom, and give them eternal life, but just don't think He can take care of whatever problem they are faced with. That, is really ridiculous,....isn't it? That we can believe God for the greater gift and then not believe Him for the lesser one reveals an embarrassing lack of faith.

Perhaps someone is thinking, "Why make a big deal out of a little worry? It is just a trivial sin." NO, it is not! Worry is devastating. But even more important than what worry does to you is what you are communicating about God. When you worry you are saying in effect, "God I just don't think I can trust You." Worry strikes a blow at the person and character of God.

Worry is in fact, the offspring of fear. Fear that reveals a total distrust in the care of our Heavenly Father. When you worry, you are not trusting your Heavenly Father. That means you don't know Him well enough. Take heart....I know an effective remedy. Study the Word of God to discover who He really is and how He has supplied the needs of His people in the past.

Understand this: Whatever you are worried about, God gives you strength one day at a time. He gives you what you need when you need it. I think of the concern of a young mother who is worried about her teenage daughter. She has done every thing she can think of in order to try and prepare her child for the future. Listen loved one, "Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you." He knows the way we take. He understands the concern. It is now time to release the burden and give the responsibility to the only One who can keep your child safe.

"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today, yes and forever" (Hebrews 13:8). If you have any questions about the future, look at the past. Has He sustained you? Don't worry, Be obedient to His Word and He will sustain you in the future as well!
