The Word - Jan. 19,
2012 - The Fellowship Of God's Son
is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship
of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord" (1 Corinthians 1:9).
"Called
into the fellowship of His Son Jesus Christ our Lord!" To think on the
reality of our Scripture blows my mind! In chapter 6:9-10 we find that like
ourselves, the Corinthian were , by nature children of wrath and enslaved by
the enemy of God, Satan himself. But God called them and has also called us by
the Gospel into the fellowship of His Son.
If we have
been born again by the power of the Holy Spirit and have accepted the gift of
eternal life, we are brought by the grace of God into this amazing fellowship
of God's Son.
Fellowship
means to have things in common; and that is exactly what God has accomplished.
He has taken us through His grace out of the fellowship in which we are by
nature, and has called us to His own fellowship in His Son!
This awesome
truth, this oneness with Christ, the fellowship of His Son, means we belong to
Him and He to us. It means we have an inheritance in Him and He in us. What an
amazing truth! We are called by God to walk in this fellowship. Ephesians tells
us that we are in Him, and through grace we abide in Him. But it is also
written, "He who says he abides in Him ought also to walk just as He
walked" (1 John 2:6).
I like the
NLT translation best: "Those
who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did."
In this fellowship of His Son, we have what it takes to walk as Christ walked
because we have His life and His Spirit. There is no need to walk after the
flesh because walking in the Spirit becomes possible as our hearts dwell on the
fact that we are called into the fellowship of God's Son.
Beloved, the
fellowship of God's Son is a reality; we walk as He walked only as we allow the
same power that raised Christ from the dead, to rule in us. Called into this
fellowship also means to share His work. We are called to serve. And finally,
there is the fellowship of His Son in its eternal aspect. God's calling is to
be like Jesus Christ. "For
whom He foreknew, He also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His
Son, that He might be the first born among many brethren." (Romans 8:29).
May the Holy
Spirit reveal these awesome truths before our hearts and in His power may we
constantly enjoy the fellowship of God's Son, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
