LOSE YOU LIFE TO FIND IT
"For
whosoever will save his life shall lose it, but whosoever will lose his life
for my sake, the same shall save it" (Luke 9:24).
According to
our Scripture, there are two attitudes we believers can take toward our life.
We can try to save it by our own efforts or we can purposefully lose it for the
sake of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
You would
think the natural thing to do would be to try and save it. We can live a
self-centered life, trying to protect ourselves from loss, to try and avoid
anything that would upset us or cause discomfort. Our life becomes like a
guarded community, posted with "No Tress Passing Signs"
posted everywhere.
That means our decisions on the basis of how situations will affect us. In
short, we live to cater to what we need to make us feel good. Life becomes all
about me! So in trying to save our life in the here and now, we lose it.
We suffer all the problems of a selfish existence and miss out on the blessings
of living life for our Savior.
Tha alternative is to lose our life for Christ's
sake. This is a life of service. This is a life of love for others. We count it
our greatest joy to spend and be spent for Jesus Christ. Our home is open, our
possessions are expendable, our time is available to meet the need of others.
We finally learn the lesson of not doing anything just for self-gratification.
In giving up our own life to Christ, we discover "abundant life",
peace that passes understanding, and joy unspeakable and full of glory!
