THE KNOWLEDGE OF HIS WILL
"For
this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you,
and to desire that you might be filled with the knowledge of His will in all
wisdom and spiritual understanding" (Colossians 1:9).
I am sure you
will all agree that every true spiritual believer will earnestly desire to
know, and do, the will of God. It is my earnest prayer that you all indeed may
"be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual
understanding."
Sad to say, however, the vast majority of believers reading this teaching
devotional will think only in terms of God's will for their life in some
specific circumstance. Don't misunderstand this Scripture, when Paul prays for
the Colossians, what he wrote does not refer in any way to God's will in any
given situation, but to His long hidden purpose and program.
He speaks of it in Ephesians 1:9: "Having made known unto us The
Mystery Of His Will, according to His good pleasure which He has purposed in
Himself." And again, in Ephesians 5:15-17: "Wherefore
be not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is."
Romans 12:2 warns us, "Do not copy the behavior and customs of this
world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you
think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you,
which is good and PLEASING AND PERFECT."
