The Word - May 28, 2012 - THE LORD BINDS UP OUR WOUNDS HE HEALS THE BROKENHEARTED
"He heals the broken hearted and binds up
their wounds. Great is the Lord, and mighty in power. His understanding is
infinite" (Psalm 147:3, 5).
Has
your heart ever been broken? I'm not talking here about romance, the usual cause of
a "broken heart." I am talking about the
crushing wounds in life from which we all suffer and struggle to recover. It
may be one incident or many; usually it is when someone has let you down. My
sense even as I write this, is that the Lord desires to say to all of us,
"The time for healing has come."
For more reasons than one, I have been impacted by what took place in the
synagogue in Nazareth. This incident is recorded for us in Luke 44:16-30 and it
is obvious that when Jesus stepped up that morning to read, He deliberately
selected a specific Messianic passage found in Isaiah 61 !8: "The
Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has appointed me to preach the Gospel
to the poor; He has sent me to heal the broken hearted."
Many other passages affirm the Lord's deep concern for hearts that have been
torn up by the rigors of life. In Psalm 34 :18, David promises, "The Lord
is close to the brokenhearted; He rescues those whose spirits are
crushed." Jesus Himself experienced the depths of this
emotion. Another Messianic passage In Isaiah 53:3 tells us that our Lord would
be despised and rejected of men, a "Man of sorrows and acquainted with
grief." What goes beyond that is that He actually died of a broken heart
as He gave His life a ransom for sin. I can almost hear Him say it: "Reproach
has broken my heart, and I am full of heaviness; I looked for someone to take
pity, but there was none, and for comforters, but I found none" (Psalm
69:20).
Brokenheartedness is a reality we have to
face in this life. Individuals close to us for whom we pray the ultimate
experience in the joy of the Lord, but they gradually fade away. Sadly, some of
the most harmful wounds come from the betrayal of a friend.
Beloved, take heart, there is One, the Holy Spirit, of whom Jesus said, would
come and comfort us. It is a ministry to those whose hearts have been wounded.
If you carry a wounded spirit within you, turn to the Lord and in the name of
Jesus Christ say, Father, would you take away the painful hurt and heal my
heart? Father, it is a time for restoration and I turn to you in the Name of
Jesus and ask You to take away the hurt.
My dear friend, the invisible finger of God, the Holy Spirit, who dwells within
you, will reach out where no one else can reach and touch that wounded place in
your life to bring you healing and restoration!
